The long awaited arrival of LiDL discount supermarkets in Cyprus looks to be nearly over.
LiDl have discussed with the media its plans to open stores across Cyprus but have not divulged the opening details.
LiDL plan to open their distribution centre in Cyprus on 27th September by giving the media a special tour but have yet to confirm when the stores will be opening.
The supermarket chain already has 300 employees in Cyprus, who the company’s director of operations in Cyprus, Ioannis Minakis, said have been training for nearly a year so they can reach the highest levels of customer service.
LiDL was founded in Germany in the 1930’s as a grocery wholesaler, the first supermarket was opened in 1973. During the 1980’s the LiDL discount concept grow nationally in Germany and then internationally.
The company now has over 9,000 supermarkets in many European countries. According to the company, the key to its international success has been simplicity and the aim of LiDL in Cyprus is to sell top quality products at the lowest possible prices.
