Description:
Since the introduction of the Euro on 1st January 2007, Cyprus has seen almost €60,000 worth of forged bank notes accepted in retail outlets.
Although several security measures are in place to counteract the passing of forged bank notes, a total of 572 forged bank notes were accepted by supermarkets, shops and other outlets.
The police have arrested 13 people on charges of counterfeiting the Euro bank notes, however none of these were Cypriot citizens.
During the first half of 2008 the €50 note was found to be forged the most throughout the Euro zone.
