Epiphany in Cyprus

05 January 2012

Description:

January 6th marks the culmination of the festivities of the Epiphany (Theophany), where the Greek Orthodox religion celebrates the baptism of Jesus Christ.

The Epiphany will be celebrated tomorrow with divine liturgies throughout the island's churches, followed by a traditional "Blessing of Waters" in major towns, during which the priest will cast a holy cross in water (sea or lake), with volunteers jumping in to retrieve it.
