Description:
Richard Durbin, US Democrat Senator from the State of Illinois, has arrived in Cyprus to conduct a series of talks on both sides of the island.
He is expected to meet with President Mehmet Ali Talat today and President Demetris Christofias tomorrow.
Durbin will also be visiting Famagusta tomorrow to meet with Mayor Oktay Kayalp.
During his visit, he will be accompanied by the State treasurer of Illinois, Alexander Giannoulias. They will also be visiting political figures in Athens and Ankara.
Cyprus, Greece and Turkey are all major allies to the US and important in this region.
