Description:
Under EU rules that prohibit discrimination there will be new berthing rates at Larnaca Marina.
Previously foreign yachtsmen had to pay 11% more than Cypriots, which lead to British boat owners complaining they were been discriminated against.
The new rates due to be voted in by the House plenum next Thursday, will mean that Cypriot boat owners will have to pay 26% more and foreign boat owners 15%. The current rates have been in force since 1994.
There will still be exceptions for boats belonging to Heads of foreign states, police patrol boats and boats seeking refuge at the marina as a result of a storm or mechanical problems making sailing dangerous.
The new rates will mean that yachtsmen of all nationalities will have to pay €51 per metre of their boat for a continuous period of 90 days, €85 per metre for 180 days and €135 per metre for a year.
