Description:
The European parliament elections will be held from 4th - 7th June 2009 in all the 27 member states.
Here in Cyprus there is some confusion as to who is eligible to vote and how to register, as the deadline for registering approaches.
EU citizens wishing to vote must submit an application, an ME1 form, to the District Office, even if they voted in the municipal election in December 2006.
Those who voted in Cyprus in the 2004 European Parliamentary elections will already be registered on the list of EU electors for the EU Parliament.
EU law grants all citizens of any member state the right to vote and stand as a candidate in European Parliament elections and local elections in the member state in which they reside. They have the same rights as nationals of their country of residence.
District offices in each town have the voting registration forms (ME1). This should also be available in English shortly on the Government of Cyprus' website.
