The Cyprus Rally 2009 organised by the Cyprus Automobile Association starts today after being officially opened last night at the Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Centre in Limassol.
The event was opened by Cyprus House President Marios Garoyian and a spectacular concert was performed by popular Greek singer Sakis Rouvas , who represents his country at the Eurovision Song Contest this year.
The Cyprus Rally is the third round of the World Rally Championships and consists of 35 teams competing over the weekend.
Citroen driver, Sebastien Loeb who is five times world champion, will be hoping to retain his championship.
Today's events are the longest of the three days with the marathon 30km Panagia through the Limassol Mountains.
The overall 3 days comprises of six stages and a competitive distance of 143km.
