  • Thursday saw the opening of round 3 of the FIA World Rally Championships in Cyprus. Firm favourite, Sebastien Loeb has extended his lead after 2 days of racing. Today is the third and final day of the race with the closing ceremony taking place in Limassol this afternoon.
     
  • Talks are still being held on the Cyprus issue and political figures in Cyprus are hoping to speed up the talks to reach an amicable agreement on both sides. The overall aim is to reunify the people, territory, economy and institutions across the whole of Cyprus. 

 

  • Cyprus has proposed stricter laws on illegal parking in disabled spaces. This could lead to using cranes to remove illegally parked cars. At present, the police have no authority to intervene if someone is parked illegally in a designated disabled parking bay.

 

  • Over one million song birds were slaughtered last year by Cyprus trappers according to Birdlife Cyprus. Some of the birds are cooked in restaurants and served as a delicacy called 'ampelopoulia' even though this is illegal in Cyprus.
